Healing Your Tattoo
Your artist has done their part; the rest is up to you. Follow these instructions religiously for a perfect heal.
Keep it Clean
Wash gently with unscented antibacterial soap and warm water. DO NOT use bar soap, loofahs, or washcloths. Fingertips only.
No Sun / No Swim
Absolutely NO swimming (pools, beach, bath) for 2 weeks. Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight until fully healed.
Do Not Pick
It will itch. It will peel. This is normal. DO NOT scratch or pick the scabs, or you will pull the ink out and cause scarring.
Day-by-Day Guide
Day 1: The Bandage
Leave the artist's bandage on for 2-4 hours (or 3-5 days if authorized Second Skin). When removing, wash immediately with warm soapy water. Pat dry. Do not re-bandage.
Day 2-3: Soreness
The tattoo will be red, sore, and may weep plasma. This is normal. Wash 2-3 times a day. Apply a VERY thin layer of aftercare cream (e.g. Dr. Pickles) only when checking dry.
Day 4-14: The Itch
It will peel like a sunburn. Do not help it peel. Use lotion when it feels tight or itchy. Slap, don't scratch.
