Question 1

Do I need to book a consultation before getting a tattoo?

Accepted Answer

While walk-ins are welcome for smaller pieces, we highly recommend booking a consultation for custom designs or larger tattoos. Consultations allow us to discuss your vision, placement, and design details to ensure we create exactly what you're looking for.

Question 2

How much does a tattoo cost?

Accepted Answer

Tattoo pricing varies based on size, complexity, and placement. Our hourly rate ranges from $150-$300. We can provide a more accurate quote during your consultation.

Question 3

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

Accepted Answer

Most tattoos take 2-4 weeks to fully heal on the surface, but the deeper layers of skin can take 2-3 months to completely heal. Proper aftercare is crucial for optimal healing. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and are always available for questions during the healing process.

Question 4

Do you do cover-ups?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We specialise in cover-up tattoos and can transform existing tattoos into new designs. Cover-ups require careful planning and design work, so we recommend booking a consultation to discuss your options and see if your existing tattoo can be effectively covered or reworked.

Question 5

What should I bring to my appointment?

Accepted Answer

Please bring a valid ID (you must be 18+), any reference images or design ideas, and wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications 24 hours before your appointment. Feel free to bring headphones, snacks, and water.

Question 6

Is the studio licensed and hygienic?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Bad Apples Tattoo Emporium is fully licensed and follows strict health and safety protocols. We use only sterile, single-use needles and equipment, maintain a clean environment, and all our artists are certified in bloodborne pathogen training. Your safety is our top priority.

Question 7

Can I see my artist's portfolio before booking?

Accepted Answer

Yes! You can view each artist's portfolio on our Artists page, and we also have a comprehensive Portfolio section showcasing recent work. We encourage you to browse and find an artist whose style matches your vision.

Question 8

What forms of payment do you accept?

Accepted Answer

The preferred payment method is cash. To discuss other payment options, please contact the studio directly.

Question 9

Do you take walk-ins?

Accepted Answer

Yes, for flash and smaller pieces, whenever an artist is free. Weekends fill up fastest, so call (07) 3870 2013 before you come in and we'll tell you the current wait. Custom work and anything large needs a consultation first.

Question 10

How much is the deposit, and is it refundable?

Accepted Answer

Deposits are $50-$100 depending on the size of the booking, and the full amount comes off the price of your tattoo. Deposits are non-refundable, but they move with you if you reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice.

Question 11

How old do I have to be to get tattooed?

Accepted Answer

You must be 18 or over, with valid photo ID on the day. This is Queensland law and we do not make exceptions, with or without parental consent.

Question 12

Can I use numbing cream?

Accepted Answer

Talk to your artist before your appointment rather than applying anything on the day. Some numbing products change how the skin takes ink and how it heals, so the artist needs to know in advance and plan around it.

Question 13

What if my tattoo needs a touch-up once it has healed?

Accepted Answer

Send us a photo once it's fully healed and we'll take a look. Small settling issues are common and are handled case by case with your artist — get in touch through the contact form or call the studio and we'll sort it out.

Question 14

Where do I park, and how do I get there?

Accepted Answer

We're at 6/205 Moggill Rd, Taringa. There is street parking on Moggill Rd and in the surrounding streets, and the studio is a short walk from Taringa train station on the Ipswich and Springfield lines.
