If you walked into a tattoo shop in 1940 or 2040, a Traditional tattoo would look right at home. It is the only style that is completely immune to fashion trends. With its 'Bold Will Hold' philosophy, these tattoos are practically indestructible against aging.
The Trad Aesthetic Rules
True Traditional isn't just a drawing; it follows strict rules:
- Lines must be essentially uniform and heavy black.
- Shading involves heavy 'whip shading' or solid black packing.
- Color palette is restricted: Red, Green, Yellow, Brown (sometimes Blue).
- Skin breaks (negative space) are essential to let the design breathe.
Why Get Traditional?
It reads clearly from across the street. While fine line tattoos require you to be nose-to-skin to appreciate, a Panther or Eagle head commands attention from a distance. It is rugged, honest, and undeniably cool.
